about me

Jenifer L. West

In my childhood, my soon-to-be brother-in-law bought "Bear," an English Setter puppy for my sister and I to show and I was lucky enough to win my first ever Group 1 with him. I've been involved a broad spectra of areas with dogs aside from Conformation- I have hosted and taught several Obedience classes and a little bit of drafting.

Throughout the early years of my career, I got the chance to handle whom is now one of the famous Bernese in history and one of the best Bernese Mountain Dogs of all time, "CH. Nashems Taylor Maid." "Taylor" made a huge impact in my career and my life especially in 1997 when I won my first National. Taylor brought me together with one of my life-long best friends who was Taylor's Owner/Breeder, Sara Karl. Taylor became the Top Winning Bernese Mountain Dog Bitch of all time, and still holds that title today; she has produced many Champions throughout her life.

My home life consists of my husband and best friend, Dave, who has always been very supportive and patient with all of my travels and has blessed me with raising our three beautiful daughters; Kelsey, Kami and Kylie. Currently, my two youngest daughters, Kami and Kylie assist me with dog handling which consists of long trips across the nation, early mornings and hard work. These two girls are extremely hard workers and I couldn't ask for better help by my side. They both have proven their abilities and skill on their own by qualifying for Westminster in New York at Madison Square Garden, as well as multiple wins at breed-specific specialties and nationals. All of my clients have a great deal of respect for these two young women as they continue their achievements in Junior Showmanship.

Tailwind Kennels is the name of my business which has been re-branded to Jenda Bernese; my business consists of professionally handling client all-breed dogs as well as boarding and grooming.
